Khob Fah Phayakon (Prophecy Horizon)

Prophecy Horizon looks at prophetic ideas from opposing sides of political conflict in the history of Isan, from the struggles between the Kingdom of Vientiane and Siam during the time of Chao Anuwong to the millenarian movements of the Phu Mi Bun, focusing on periods of crisis, change, and uncertainty about the future.

​

The project imagines the “future” as a black hole, something mysterious and unknowable, shaped by uncertainty and possibility, while prophecy is seen as signals near its edge, clues people use to interpret and negotiate what may come.

​

The project selects parts of politically influential prophecies and places them side by side, including Sarn Lueb Phra Soohn (a text rooted in the conflicts of the Chao Anuwong period), the prophecies compiled in Kalanap Mue Sueai, predictions from King Rama IV’s era, the Phu Mi Bun prophecies, and beliefs in the future Buddha, Phra Sri Ariya, showing that the “future” is never empty, but a contested field of meaning and power.

Prophecy Horizon presents these prophetic ideas as particles orbiting a black hole, revealing prophecy not only as an expression of hope and fear, but also as a force that shapes political power and historical action.
